Capturing the beauty of a hotel or vacation destination can be incredibly rewarding and satisfying. But it's not always easy to capture the perfect shot. Professional hotel photographer, Andrew Collins, has been doing this for years and knows how to get stunning images every time. In this blog post, he shares his amazing tips on how to create stunning images of a hotel or vacation destination with just your camera. From composition, lighting, angles and more - you'll find out everything you need to know about taking gorgeous photos of any hotel or vacation spot you visit!

Composition

As a professional hotel photographer, I have had the opportunity to shoot some amazing properties all over the world. In this blog post, I will share with you some of my top tips for creating stunning images of hotels that will make your clients want to book a stay.

1. Shoot in RAW format: This will give you the most flexibility when editing your photos later on.

2. Use a tripod: This will help you keep your camera steady and avoid any blurriness in your photos.

3. Get creative with your shots: Try shooting from different angles and perspectives to add interest to your photos.

4. Pay attention to the details: Make sure to capture all the unique features of the hotel, such as interesting architecture or beautiful landscaping.

5. Use natural light whenever possible: This will add a warm and inviting feel to your photos.

6. Edit your photos carefully: Choose only the best photos to edit and enhance, and don't overdo it with the filters or effects.

Lighting

If you're hoping to create stunning images like a professional hotel photographer, then paying attention to lighting is key. Here are some tips to help you make the most of light in your shots:

- Look for natural light sources whenever possible, such as windows or skylights. This will help create a more evenly lit image.

- If using artificial lighting, try to use multiple light sources to avoid harsh shadows.

- Be aware of the direction of light when shooting outdoors. The sun can create beautiful backlighting or dramatic shadows, depending on how you position your subject.

- Use reflectors to bounce light into shadowy areas and soften hard edges.

By following these tips, you'll be able to make the most of any lighting situation and produce stunning results!

Use A Tripod

One of the best ways to ensure sharp, clear images is to use a tripod. A tripod will help keep your camera still and avoid any blurriness from movement. If you don't have a tripod, try to find something else to prop your camera up on- like a stack of books or a table. Taking the time to set up a tripod will pay off in beautiful, crisp photos.

Get Close Up

If you're like most people, when you go on vacation you want to document the experience with photos. But let's face it, not all of us are professional photographers. So how can we make sure our vacation photos are stunning?

Here are some great tips from a professional hotel photographer for getting close up shots that will wow your friends and family:

1. Get closer than you think you should. The best close up shots are often taken from just a few feet away. So don't be afraid to get close to your subject matter.

2. Use a wide-angle lens. This will help you capture more of the scene in your photo.

3. Look for interesting details. It's the small things that often make the best photos. So keep your eyes peeled for unique details like an intricate piece of architecture or an interesting pattern in the wallpaper.

4. Play with different perspectives. Get down low or climb up high to give your photos some variety.

5. Be patient. Sometimes the best shots come when you wait for the perfect moment, so don't be afraid to take your time and experiment with different angles and compositions

Shoot In RAW Format

As a professional hotel photographer, I always shoot in RAW format. RAW files are much larger in size than JPEGs, but they offer so much more information and flexibility when it comes to editing. With a RAW file, you can adjust things like white balance, exposure, and sharpness without losing here any quality. You can also shoot in a lower resolution and then scale up the image later without losing any detail.

shooting in RAW format allows me to get the highest quality images possible straight out of the camera. It also gives me a lot of freedom when it comes to post-processing my photos. I can make all sorts of adjustments without worrying about losing any quality or detail.

Edit Your Photos

As a professional hotel photographer, I often get asked how to edit photos to make them look amazing. Here are some of my top tips:

1. Use RAW files: RAW files contain all the data captured by your camera's sensor, giving you much more flexibility when it comes to editing. If you're shooting in JPEG, consider switching to RAW.

2. Adjust white balance: White balance is one of the most important aspects of editing photos. By adjusting the white balance, you can change the overall tone and mood of your image.

3. Play with exposure: Experiment with different exposure levels to see what works best for your image. Often, slightly underexposing an image can give it more impact.

4. Use curves: Curves are a powerful tool that can help you fine-tune the contrast and brightness of your photo.

5. Add saturation: A bit of extra saturation can really make colors pop and add vibrancy to an image. Just be careful not to go overboard!

6. Sharpen your photos: Sharpening helps bring out details and makes an image look more crisp. But be careful not to oversharpening, as this can result in ugly artifacts known as "halos."

Experiment With Angles

If you're looking to add a bit of drama to your hotel photography, experiment with different angles. Shooting from low down can give rooms an imposing feel, while shooting up towards the ceiling can make them feel vast and luxurious. If you're photographing exteriors, try incorporating leading lines into your compositions to draw the eye in. And don't forget about reflections – they can add an extra dimension to any photo.

Use The Rule Of Thirds

When it comes to composition, one of the easiest ways to create a visually pleasing image is to use the rule of thirds. This rule is simple to follow – simply divide your frame into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, and place your subject along one of those lines or at the intersection of two.

Not only will this help you create a more balanced and pleasing composition, but it will also give your subject some breathing room and prevent them from being too centrally located in the frame. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, so feel free to experiment!

Take Advantage Of Natural Light

In hotel photography, one of the most important things to keep in mind is to take advantage of natural light. Whenever possible, open up curtains and blinds and let the sunlight brighten up your shots. Not only will this help your photos look more inviting, but it will also save you from having to use flashlights or other artificial light sources that can sometimes produce harsh results.

If you're shooting indoors, try to position your subject near a window where they'll be bathed in soft natural light. And when shooting outdoors, make sure to keep an eye on the direction of the sun so that you can take advantage of its angle and position your subjects accordingly. With a little bit of creativity and planning, you can use natural light to create some truly stunning hotel images.

Shoot At Different Times Of The Day

One of the best ways to get different and unique shots when photographing a hotel is to shoot at different times of the day. Shooting during the daytime will give you completely different results than shooting at night. Try to mix it up and see what works best for your style and the type of shots you’re going for.

If you’re looking for more dramatic shots, nighttime is usually the best time to shoot. You can play with different lighting techniques to create some really stunning images. If you want something a little more relaxed and natural, daytime shots are usually the way to go. Experiment and have fun – that’s the most important part!
